About Us

experienced college counselor, future counselor, and educational advisor

Journeys Consulting was founded by teacher and future/college counselor, Katie Lamarre. After finishing a Bachelor’s degree at Gonzaga University and a Master’s degree at Portland State University, Katie moved to Bend in 1996 and jumped right back into education.  Although it was the outdoors, active lifestyle, and welcoming community that first drew Katie, it soon became the opportunity to learn and grow in the field of education that solidified her reason for staying.  Now, after 25 years of working as a humanities teacher, school administrator, and future counselor, Katie is excited to launch Journeys Consulting which will include a variety of services, all sharing the goal of guiding young people to future success.

With over a decade of college counseling experience, including a UCLA college counseling certification, Katie has a wealth of knowledge about both national and international colleges and universities, the college application and admissions process, and the financial aid steps, among other related aspects.  Through the years, Katie has also helped high school students obtain meaningful internships and has also guided students already in college through the transfer process.  In addition, with a comprehensive understanding of the private and public school options available in the region, Katie is well-equipped to guide families in making educational decisions and facilitating academic support when needed.

Katie’s work, whether college counseling, facilitating academic support, obtaining internships, or advising families on academic options, always starts with a relational focus.  Getting to know and understand young people is key in helping them reach their goals.  Forging a strong relationship that promotes respect and trust allows for open discussions that can identify purpose and personal aspirations.  Katie also holds communication and honest transparency as key components in a successful relationship.

When not working with students and families, Katie spends much of her time being active in the beautiful central Oregon region.  Katie is an avid cyclist, skier, and runner and can often be found on different area trails enjoying all the natural beauty.  In the summer months, she can also be found in her backyard gardening, attempting to make tomatoes grow in 60 days.  Most importantly, Katie enjoys spending time with her daughter and trying to keep up with her on foot and skis!

Katie Lamarre is also an active member of National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) and Higher Educational Consulting Association (HECA).
